Read on for expected changes in waivers, coming data privacy and cybersecurity concerns, guidance for skilled nursing facilities, and more.<br \/>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">CMS May Extend Telehealth Waivers<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The Centers for Medicare &amp; Medicaid Services (CMS) is considering extending waivers on telehealth coverage past the pandemic,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mcknights.com\/news\/cms-weighs-extending-telehealth-waivers-beyond-pandemic\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>McKnight&#8217;s<\/em>&nbsp;<em>Long-Term Care News<\/em>&nbsp;<\/a>reported, although doing so would require Congressional approval.<br \/>&nbsp;<br \/>Centers for Medicare &amp; Medicaid Services Administrator Seema Verma has confirmed this possibility.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mcknights.com\/news\/cant-imagine-going-back-verma-says-expanded-telemedicine-access-should-continue-after-pandemic\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>McKnight&#8217;s<\/em>reported<\/a>&nbsp;that Verma spoke at a live virtual event with STAT News, saying \u201cPeople recognize the value of this, so it seems like it would not be a good thing to force our beneficiaries to go back to in-person visits.\u201d<br \/>&nbsp;<br \/>Verma also raised the possibility of changes in reimbursement for telehealth visits after the pandemic. \u201cI don\u2019t see it as a one-to-one,\u201d she reportedly told STAT News. \u201c\u2026I think there are some potential savings for the system that do occur by having a telehealth visit.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Industry Changes in Telehealth<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>A recent&nbsp;<em>HealthTech<\/em>&nbsp;article titled &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/healthtechmagazine.net\/article\/2020\/06\/how-will-telehealth-change-after-pandemic\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">How Will Telehealth Change After the Pandemic?<\/a>&#8221; says that you should prepare now and be ready to quickly adapt your telehealth. The following changes may be on the way.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Heightened Data Privacy Laws:&nbsp;<\/strong>Expect data privacy and security laws to return to normal after the pandemic.&nbsp;<em>HealthTech<\/em>&nbsp;recommends providers prepare for more stringent privacy laws:<ul><li>Evaluate security controls of telehealth technologies and vendor HIPAA compliance.<\/li><li>Consider interoperability of platforms and connected devices with electronic health record systems.<\/li><li>Enter into or amend business associate agreements with vendors who have access to protected health information and ensure protections for breaches and security incidents\u2014including strong indemnification, reporting obligations, and cyber liability coverage.<\/li><li>Conduct a comprehensive security risk assessment of IT systems.&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>For more on cybersecurity and how to protect your organization, see&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/leadingage.org\/cybersecurity-resources\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">CAST&#8217;s Cybersecurity Resources<\/a>.
